Quick answer

Spotloan says most applications get a decision within one minute or less after you finish the roughly 10-minute online form. If you're approved and accept your terms on a weekday before 1:30 p.m. CT, funds can arrive by the end of that business day. Check your status by signing in at apply.spotloan.com or calling 888-681-6811.

Key takeaways

  • Most Spotloan decisions arrive in about a minute, but identity checks can add time.
  • Check your Spotloan approval status at apply.spotloan.com/account/sign-in, by email at [email protected], or by phone at 888-681-6811.
  • Funding speed depends on when you accept your terms and on your bank: same day, overnight or next business day.
  • Spotloan reviews data from DataX, Clarity and other sources, not just FICO. Approval is never guaranteed.
  • You can have only one open Spotloan. Reapply after it's paid off and the payment clears.

How Fast Is Spotloan Approval?

Speed is one of the main reasons people look at Spotloan. According to Spotloan, the online application takes about 10 minutes, and for most applications a decision comes within one minute or less after you complete it.

That fast answer is possible because the review is automated. Spotloan asks for your consent to request data from many sources, including non-traditional credit reporting agencies such as DataX and Clarity. It says it does not rely only on FICO scores.

"Most" is the key word. Some applications take longer, usually because something needs a closer look, such as your identity or bank details. A fast decision also isn't the same as fast cash. The money's arrival depends on when you accept your terms and how quickly your bank posts the deposit, which we cover below.

What a Pending or Verification Status Can Mean

Spotloan doesn't publish a list of every status message, so we can only describe what a pending or "in review" status generally means with online lenders. Usually it means the lender needs more information or more time before making a final call. Common reasons include:

  • Identity verification. Spotloan says identity verification may be required through a third-party provider. Until you complete it, your application may wait.
  • Bank account checks. The lender may need to confirm the account is a checking or savings account in your name and not a prepaid account.
  • Information that doesn't match. A typo in your name, address or SSN can trigger extra checks.
  • Timing. Applications sent late in the day or on weekends may take longer to move through.

The best thing you can do is watch your email and phone for requests from Spotloan and respond quickly. If nothing changes, contact Spotloan directly rather than submitting a second application.

Heads up: We are an independent site and cannot see or change the status of any Spotloan application. Only Spotloan can tell you where yours stands.

Spotloan Funding Time: When Will You Get the Money?

Once you're approved and you accept your loan terms, the clock for funding starts. Spotloan publishes these windows, all in Central Time:

When you accept your termsWhen funds typically arrive
Monday–Friday, before 1:30 p.m.By the end of that business day
Monday–Thursday, 1:30–8 p.m.Overnight
Friday after 1:30 p.m. through SundayBy the end of the next business day

Your bank plays a big role. Some banks post deposits faster than others, and bank holidays can push things back. If you need money for a specific date, try to accept your terms early on a weekday.

For example, if you accept your terms at 11 a.m. CT on a Tuesday, the money can arrive by the end of Tuesday. Accept at 4 p.m. CT on a Wednesday and it's an overnight deposit. Accept at 3 p.m. CT on a Friday, or any time on the weekend, and you should expect it by the end of Monday, assuming Monday is a business day.

You may see a 12:30 p.m. cutoff on some older websites. That is outdated. Spotloan's current same-day cutoff is 1:30 p.m. CT.

What Affects Spotloan Approval?

Spotloan doesn't share its exact approval formula. Based on its published requirements and process, these factors clearly matter:

  • Basic eligibility: you must be at least 18 and live in one of the 39 eligible states.
  • Income: you need a job or other regular source of income.
  • Bank account: a checking or savings account in your name at a bank or credit union, not associated with other Spotloan accounts. Prepaid debit accounts are not accepted.
  • Identity: SSN, valid email, mailing address and phone number, plus ID verification if requested.
  • Credit data: information from DataX, Clarity and other sources. Spotloan does not rely only on FICO.
  • Open loans: you can have only one open Spotloan at a time.

Because Spotloan looks beyond FICO, people with lower scores may still be considered. That said, no one can promise approval. Our page on Spotloan and bad credit looks at this in more depth, and the full Spotloan requirements list explains each item.

After You're Approved: Your First Payment and Beyond

Approval is exciting when you need money fast, but it's also the moment to plan your repayment. Your first payment is usually due about two weeks after funding in Spotloan's biweekly example, so it can come sooner than you expect.

Here's what to keep in mind once the money lands:

  • Interest starts right away. Spotloan uses simple interest that builds daily on the principal you still owe. At 490% APR, that's about 1.34% per day.
  • Paying early saves money. There is no prepayment penalty. Even one extra payment can lower your total cost.
  • Know your payment method. Spotloan says 97% of customers use automatic ACH debit. You can also make a one-time debit card payment online or by phone, or mail a check or money order.
  • Give notice for changes. To change a payment date or amount, or to set up a payoff, contact Spotloan at least 2 business days before the due date.
  • Missed payments cost more. There are no late fees, but extra interest builds, late amounts may be reported to credit reporting agencies, and unpaid accounts may go to collections.

To see how much a loan could cost from start to finish, read our Spotloan interest rate guide. If you ever fall behind, contact Spotloan at least 2 business days before your due date to ask about changing your schedule.

What to Do If Your Spotloan Is Denied

A denial can be frustrating, especially in an emergency. Here are practical next steps:

  1. Contact Spotloan. Ask whether anything in your application can be fixed, such as a typo or the wrong type of bank account.
  2. Check your credit reports. You can get free reports at AnnualCreditReport.com and dispute any errors you find.
  3. Consider a credit union PAL. Federal credit union Payday Alternative Loans range from $200 to $2,000 with a maximum APR of 28%, far below Spotloan's rates.
  4. Compare other lenders. See our guide to loans like Spotloan for other installment options.
  5. Send a free loan request. Our form sends one $200–$5,000 request to a network of third-party lenders. Many lenders start with a soft inquiry. Not everyone is matched, and approval is not guaranteed.

Reapplying and Repeat Spotloan Approval

Spotloan allows only one open loan at a time. If you already have a Spotloan, you can apply again after it is paid off and your final payment has cleared. Note that a check or money order mailed to Spotloan's P.O. Box may take 7–10 days for your bank to clear, so electronic payments can be quicker if you plan to reapply soon.

Repeat borrowers can see better terms. After you pay a first Spotloan in full and on time, you may qualify for an APR of 330% to 460% on your next loan instead of 490%. Starting with your 10th Spotloan, the APR can be as low as 99%, and preferred customers with 10 or more Spotloans can borrow up to $1,500.

Still, a lower rate doesn't make a Spotloan cheap. Before you borrow again, run the numbers in our Spotloan calculator and think about whether a lower-cost option could work instead.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Spotloan take to approve?

Spotloan says most applications get a decision within one minute or less after you finish the online form, which takes about 10 minutes. Some applications take longer if identity verification or extra checks are needed. A fast decision does not guarantee approval, and funding timing depends on when you accept your terms and on your bank.

How do I check my Spotloan approval status?

Sign in at the official portal, apply.spotloan.com/account/sign-in, typing the address yourself. You can also email [email protected] or call 888-681-6811. Customer service hours are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central and Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Central. Independent sites like ours cannot see your status.

Why is my Spotloan application pending?

Spotloan does not publish every status reason. In general, a pending status means the lender needs more information or time. Common causes include identity verification through a third-party provider, bank account checks, or details that don't match your records. Watch your email and phone, respond quickly to requests, and contact Spotloan if it stays pending.

How fast does Spotloan deposit money?

If you accept your terms Monday through Friday before 1:30 p.m. Central, funds can arrive by the end of that business day. Accept Monday through Thursday between 1:30 and 8 p.m. and funding is overnight. Accept Friday after 1:30 p.m. through Sunday and funds arrive by the end of the next business day, depending on your bank.

Is Spotloan approval guaranteed?

No. No legitimate lender can guarantee approval. Spotloan reviews your application using data from many sources, including DataX and Clarity, along with its basic requirements for age, income, bank account and state. Having lower credit does not automatically disqualify you, but approval depends on Spotloan's review.

Can I get a second Spotloan while I have one open?

No. Spotloan allows only one open loan at a time. You can reapply once your current Spotloan is paid off and the final payment has cleared. If you paid your first loan in full and on time, you may qualify for a lower APR between 330% and 460% on the next one.
