Spotloan loans are unsecured, short-term installment loans from Ningo Lending LLC, a tribal lender owned by the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. New and repeat customers can borrow up to $800, preferred customers up to $1,500, with terms up to 10 months. The first loan carries a 490% APR, and interest builds daily on the balance you still owe.
Key takeaways
- Borrow up to $800 as a new or repeat customer, or up to $1,500 after 10 or more Spotloans.
- Your first Spotloan is at 490% APR. On-time payoff can unlock 330%–460%, and the 10th loan can drop to 99%.
- Interest is simple daily interest, so paying early or paying extra lowers your total cost. There is no prepayment penalty.
- Spotloan's own example: $600 repaid in 10 biweekly payments costs about $775 in interest.
- Spotloan loans are built for short-term emergencies, not long-term borrowing. Compare other options first.
What Are Spotloan Loans?
Spotloan loans are short-term installment loans. You borrow a set amount, then pay it back in a series of scheduled payments, usually every two weeks. Each payment covers interest and part of the principal. The loans are unsecured, which means you don't put up a car title or other collateral.
A Spotloan is not a payday loan. A payday loan is usually due in one lump sum on your next payday. It is also not a line of credit, so you can't draw more money as you go. You get one loan, one schedule, and one payoff date.
Spotloan is a brand owned by Ningo Lending LLC, a tribal limited liability company wholly owned by the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians of North Dakota, a federally recognized tribe. Ningo operates on the Tribe's reservation, and its lending license comes from the Tribe's Lending Commission rather than from the states where borrowers live. Spotloan says borrowers "electronically visit" the reservation and are subject to the Tribe's jurisdiction. You can read more on our page about Spotloan and Ningo Lending.
The brand was founded in 2012 and was operated for years by BlueChip Financial, another entity owned by the same Tribe. As of December 2, 2025, Ningo Lending services Spotloan loans. Spotloan says payments, the online account portal and contact details stayed the same. Many older reviews still mention "BlueChip," which is now out of date.

Spotloan Loan Amounts and Repayment Terms
How much you can borrow depends on your history with Spotloan. As of October 2026, Spotloan's published limits are:
- New customers: up to $800.
- Repeat customers: also up to $800.
- Preferred customers (10 or more Spotloans): up to $1,500.
Spotloan's how-it-works page does not list a minimum amount. Loans typically start around $300, according to third-party reviews. Whatever you're offered, you don't have to take the full amount. Borrowing less is one of the easiest ways to keep interest down.
You choose your repayment schedule, with terms of up to 10 months. Spotloan's own example uses biweekly payments, which often line up with paydays. A longer term makes each payment smaller, but you pay interest for more days, so the total cost goes up. A shorter term means bigger payments but less interest overall.
Keep in mind that Spotloan allows only one open loan at a time. You can apply again after your current loan is paid off and the final payment has cleared. Our guide to Spotloan requirements covers who can qualify in the first place.
Choosing a term that fits your budget
Before you pick a schedule, write down your monthly take-home pay and your must-pay bills, such as rent, utilities, food and transportation. Whatever is left is the most you can safely put toward a loan payment. If the payment on a short term doesn't fit, a longer term may be needed, but plan to pay extra whenever you can so you don't pay interest for the full 10 months.
Spotloan APR Tiers: 490%, 330%–460%, and 99%
APR, or annual percentage rate, shows the yearly cost of borrowing as a percentage. Spotloan's maximum APR is 490%, and your rate depends on how many Spotloans you have repaid.
| Your Spotloan history | APR | Max amount |
|---|---|---|
| First Spotloan | 490% | $800 |
| Next loan after paying a first Spotloan in full and on time | 330%–460% (if you qualify) | $800 |
| 10th Spotloan and beyond | As low as 99% | Up to $1,500 |
Even the lowest tier is far above what banks and credit unions charge. For comparison, federal credit union Payday Alternative Loans are capped at a 28% APR. Spotloan itself says its loans are expensive and meant for short-term emergencies. For a deeper look at the numbers, see our Spotloan interest rate guide.

How Simple Daily Interest Works, in Plain English
Spotloan uses simple interest that builds every day on the principal you still owe. Principal is the amount you borrowed, not counting interest.
At 490% APR, the daily rate is about 1.34%. In everyday terms, that is roughly $1.34 per day for every $100 of principal you still owe. Here is what that means for you:
- Every day counts. The longer a dollar of principal stays unpaid, the more interest it collects.
- Early payments help. When you pay down principal sooner, there is less left for interest to build on.
- Late payments hurt. Spotloan doesn't charge late fees, but extra days mean extra interest.
- Interest doesn't compound on itself. It's charged on principal, not on past interest.
Spotloan's official $600 example
Spotloan publishes this example for a first loan: you borrow $600 at 490% APR and repay it in 10 biweekly payments over 5 months, with the first payment due 14 days after funding. Spotloan says the finance charges come to about $775, for a total payback of about $1,375.
Our calculator model, using the same simple daily interest and 14-day periods, lands at about $137.30 per payment and about $773 in interest, which closely matches Spotloan's figure. In other words, on this example you pay back more than twice what you borrowed.
What Spotloan Loans Cost: Estimated Examples
The table below shows estimates from our model: simple daily interest, 10 biweekly payments over about 5 months, with the first payment 14 days after funding. Your real numbers depend on your loan documents, schedule and payment dates.
| Amount | APR | Per payment | Finance charge | Total repaid |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $300 | 490% | $68.65 | $386.49 | $686.49 |
| $500 | 490% | $114.41 | $644.14 | $1,144.14 |
| $600 | 490% | $137.30 | $772.97 | $1,372.97 |
| $800 | 490% | $183.06 | $1,030.63 | $1,830.63 |
| $800 | 330% | $145.42 | $654.19 | $1,454.19 |
| $800 | 99% | $97.64 | $176.40 | $976.40 |
Two things stand out. First, at 490% APR the interest on a five-month loan is larger than the amount borrowed. Second, the rate tier matters a lot: the same $800 costs an estimated $1,030.63 in interest at 490% but about $176.40 at 99%. For comparison, the same $800 at a 35.99% APR over 10 biweekly payments would cost roughly $61.99 in interest.

Payments, Early Payoff and Missed Payments
Spotloan offers several ways to pay:
- Automatic ACH debit from your bank account. Spotloan says 97% of customers use it.
- One-time debit card payment online or by phone.
- Check or money order mailed to Spotloan, P.O. Box 720, Belcourt, ND 58316. Your bank may take 7–10 days to clear a mailed payment.
Early payoff saves money. There is no prepayment penalty, and because interest builds daily, paying extra or paying off early cuts your total cost. If you want to change your payment schedule, the amount, or set up a payoff, contact Spotloan at least 2 business days before your due date.
Missed payments cost more. Spotloan does not charge late fees, but interest keeps building on the unpaid balance. Late or unpaid amounts may be reported to credit reporting agencies, and unpaid accounts may be sent to a collection agency. If you're struggling, read our guide on what to do if you can't pay a Spotloan.

Spotloan's Track Record: What to Know Before You Borrow
Spotloan has been lending since 2012, so there is a long public record to look at. Here are the key facts, stated neutrally, as of October 2026:
- Customer reviews are mixed by platform. On Trustpilot, Spotloan has roughly 29,000 reviews with an overall score in the 4.3–4.4 range, and the company actively replies to reviewers. On the Better Business Bureau, Spotloan is not accredited, holds a "B" rating, and has had 185 complaints filed in the last three years.
- A class action was settled. In Turner et al. v. ZestFinance Inc. et al., borrowers alleged loans with rates as high as about 460% and a lack of state licenses. The defendants, including BlueChip Financial d/b/a Spotloan, denied wrongdoing. The case settled with an $18.5 million fund and cancellation of eligible loans, with final approval on July 9, 2020. The class covered people who got a Spotloan between January 1, 2012 and October 31, 2018.
- Some states have pushed back. In 2019, BlueChip signed a settlement with Connecticut's Department of Banking and agreed to stop lending there without conceding the state's claims.
- Industry memberships. Spotloan displays membership in the Native American Financial Services Association (NAFSA) and a U.S. Chamber of Commerce member badge.

Spotloan Loans vs. a Loan Request Through Us
SpotloanApplyUSA is an independent loan-request service. We are not Spotloan or Ningo Lending, and we don't make loans or credit decisions. Our free form sends one request to a network of third-party lenders and lending partners. Here is an honest side-by-side:
| Feature | Spotloan (direct) | Loan request through us |
|---|---|---|
| Who lends | Ningo Lending LLC (tribal lender) | Third-party lenders in our network, if matched |
| Amount | Up to $800 ($1,500 for preferred) | Requests from $200 to $5,000 |
| APR | 490% on a first loan | Varies by lender and state |
| Credit check | DataX, Clarity and other sources | Many lenders start with a soft inquiry |
| Guarantee | Approval not guaranteed | Not everyone is matched; approval not guaranteed |
Our network's representative example: "$2,500 repaid over 12 monthly payments at 34.99% APR ≈ $249.90 per month; total repaid ≈ $2,998.74; finance charge ≈ $498.74." Example only; actual offers vary. You may or may not see an offer, and any offer could be more or less expensive than a Spotloan. Read every offer's terms before you accept.

How much can you borrow with Spotloan?
As of October 2026, Spotloan lets new and repeat customers borrow up to $800. Preferred customers, meaning people who have taken 10 or more Spotloans, can borrow up to $1,500. Spotloan does not publish a minimum on its how-it-works page, but third-party reviews say loans typically start around $300. You can choose to borrow less than your maximum to save on interest.
Is a Spotloan a payday loan?
No. A Spotloan is a short-term installment loan, not a payday loan. Payday loans are usually due in one lump sum on your next payday. With a Spotloan, you repay the loan in a series of scheduled payments, often every two weeks, over up to 10 months. It is still expensive, though, with a 490% APR on a first loan.
How long do you have to pay back a Spotloan?
You choose your repayment schedule, with terms of up to 10 months. Spotloan's own example uses 10 biweekly payments over about 5 months. Longer terms make each payment smaller but increase the total interest, because simple interest builds daily on the balance you still owe. You can pay off early at any time without a prepayment penalty.
How much does a $600 Spotloan cost?
Spotloan's official example is a first loan of $600 at 490% APR, repaid in 10 biweekly payments over 5 months. Spotloan says the finance charges total about $775, for about $1,375 in total payback. Our calculator model lands at about $137.30 per payment and about $773 in interest. Paying early or paying extra would lower that cost.
Does paying off a Spotloan early save money?
Yes. Spotloan uses simple interest that builds daily on the principal you still owe, and there is no prepayment penalty. Paying extra or paying the loan off early means fewer days of interest, which lowers your total cost. To change your payment amount or set up a payoff, contact Spotloan at least two business days before your due date.
Can you have two Spotloans at once?
No. Spotloan allows only one open loan at a time. Once your current Spotloan is paid off and the final payment clears, you can apply again. If you paid your first loan in full and on time, you may qualify for a lower APR of 330% to 460% on your next Spotloan.
