To meet Spotloan requirements, you must be at least 18, have a job or other regular income, and hold a checking or savings account in your name at a bank or credit union (prepaid accounts aren't accepted). You also need an SSN, valid email, mailing address and phone number, and you must live in one of Spotloan's 39 eligible states.
Key takeaways
- Basic Spotloan requirements: 18+, regular income, your own bank or credit union account, SSN, email, address and phone.
- Prepaid debit accounts are not accepted, and your account can't be linked to another Spotloan account.
- Spotloan lends in 39 states. It's not available in 11 states and DC.
- Spotloan checks DataX, Clarity and other sources and doesn't rely only on FICO.
- Meeting every requirement doesn't guarantee approval, and you can hold only one open Spotloan at a time.
Spotloan Requirements Checklist
Spotloan keeps its list of requirements fairly short. As of October 2026, here is what Spotloan says you need to apply:
- Age: at least 18 years old.
- Income: a job or other regular source of income.
- Bank account: a checking or savings account in your name at a bank or credit union, not associated with other Spotloan accounts.
- Social Security number.
- Valid email address.
- Mailing address.
- Phone number.
- Eligible state: you must live in one of the 39 states where Spotloan lends.
Spotloan may also require identity verification through a third-party provider. And because Spotloan allows only one open loan at a time, you can't apply for a new one while a current Spotloan is still open.
Meeting the requirements is only the first step. Spotloan still reviews your application and decides whether to approve it. Read our Spotloan approval guide to see what happens after you apply.
Bank Account Rules: Why Prepaid Cards Don't Work
The bank account requirement trips up more people than any other. Spotloan deposits your loan into your account and, for most borrowers, collects payments from it by automatic ACH debit. Spotloan says 97% of its customers pay this way. So the account has to meet a few rules:
- Checking or savings is fine. Spotloan accepts either type.
- It must be in your name. A partner's, parent's or friend's account won't work.
- It must be at a bank or credit union.
- No prepaid debit accounts. Prepaid cards are not accepted, even if they come with account and routing numbers.
- No sharing with other Spotloan accounts. The account can't be associated with another Spotloan account.
If you don't have a qualifying account, opening a basic checking or savings account at a local bank or credit union is the fix. As a bonus, many credit unions also offer small-dollar loans with much lower rates than Spotloan.
State Requirements: Where Spotloan Lends
Spotloan is available in 39 states as of October 2026. It is not available in these 11 states and the District of Columbia:
| Status | States |
|---|---|
| Not available | Arkansas, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, District of Columbia |
| Available | The other 39 states, including California, Florida, Texas, Ohio, Georgia, North Carolina, Massachusetts and Colorado |
Some older websites still say Spotloan isn't available in North Carolina, Massachusetts or Colorado. According to Spotloan's current FAQ, all three are now on the available list. Check the full breakdown on our Spotloan states page.

Does Spotloan Check Credit?
Yes. Spotloan asks for your consent during the application to request data from many sources, including non-traditional credit reporting agencies such as DataX and Clarity. These agencies often track things like short-term loan history and bank account behavior that may not show up the same way in a traditional credit report.
Spotloan says it does not rely only on FICO. That's one reason people with lower credit scores look at Spotloan. Still, a lower score doesn't mean automatic approval, and no lender can honestly promise "no credit check" approval.
On the reporting side, Spotloan says it may report loan activity to non-traditional agencies such as DataX and Clarity. Its official FAQ doesn't say it reports on-time payments to Equifax, Experian or TransUnion. Late or unpaid amounts may be reported to credit reporting agencies, and unpaid accounts may go to collections. For more, see our guide on Spotloan for bad credit.
Documents and Details to Have Ready
The application takes about 10 minutes. You'll move faster, and avoid errors, if you gather these first:
- Your Social Security number. Double-check every digit.
- Bank details. Your bank or credit union name, routing number and account number for the checking or savings account in your name.
- Income information. Your employer or other income source and how often you're paid. Spotloan's sample schedule uses biweekly payments, so it helps to know your paydays.
- Contact details. A current mailing address, phone number and an email you check often.
- Photo ID. Keep a government-issued ID nearby in case Spotloan asks you to verify your identity.
Make sure your name and address match across your ID, bank records and application. Mismatches are a common reason identity checks get held up. Our step-by-step Spotloan application guide shows where each detail goes.
Where to submit your details safely
Only enter your SSN and bank information on Spotloan's official application at apply.spotloan.com. Type the address yourself rather than clicking ads or links in unexpected texts. SpotloanApplyUSA is an independent loan-request service, not Spotloan, and we do not take Spotloan applications. If you have questions about a requirement, contact Spotloan directly at 888-681-6811 or [email protected]. Its team is available Monday–Friday 7 a.m.–8 p.m. CT and Saturday 9 a.m.–6 p.m. CT.
Requirements for Repeat and Preferred Borrowers
The basic requirements are the same whether it's your first Spotloan or your fifth, but a few extra rules apply once you've borrowed before:
| Borrower type | Extra requirement | Max amount | APR |
|---|---|---|---|
| New customer | Meet the basic checklist | $800 | 490% |
| Repeat customer | Previous Spotloan paid off and payment cleared | $800 | 330%–460% if your first loan was paid in full and on time |
| Preferred customer | 10 or more Spotloans | $1,500 | As low as 99% from the 10th loan |
The most important rule for returning borrowers is that Spotloan allows only one open loan at a time. You can reapply after your current Spotloan is paid off and the payment clears. If you pay by mailed check or money order, your bank may take 7–10 days to clear it, so electronic payment is usually faster if you plan to reapply.
Paying on time matters, too. Missed or late payments don't bring late fees, but they add interest, may be reported to credit reporting agencies, and unpaid accounts can be sent to collections. A rocky payment history could make it harder to qualify for a better rate next time. See how the numbers change across tiers in our Spotloan interest rate guide.
Who Isn't a Good Fit for Spotloan
Even if you meet every requirement, a Spotloan may not be the right choice. A first Spotloan carries a 490% APR, and Spotloan itself says its loans are expensive and meant for short-term emergencies. You may want to skip it if:
- You live in an excluded state, or you only have a prepaid card.
- You already have an open Spotloan.
- You need more than $800 and haven't had 10 or more Spotloans.
- The payments would strain your budget or push other bills aside.
- You could qualify for a credit card, personal loan or credit union loan at a lower rate.
- You want a loan that reports on-time payments to the three major credit bureaus.
A note for servicemembers
The federal Military Lending Act caps the Military Annual Percentage Rate (MAPR) at 36% for covered active-duty servicemembers and their dependents. If you are a covered borrower, check with the lender directly about how this applies before you apply, and review the CFPB's guidance on the Military Lending Act.
How to Improve Your Odds of Approval
Spotloan doesn't publish its approval formula, so no tip can guarantee a yes. These general good practices apply to most online lenders:
- Confirm your state is on the available list before you start.
- Use a qualifying account in your own name, not a prepaid card.
- Enter details carefully so they match your ID and bank records.
- Respond fast to any request for identity verification.
- Pay off any open Spotloan and wait until the payment clears before reapplying.
- Request only what you need. A smaller loan is cheaper. Use our Spotloan calculator to estimate payments.
- Review your credit reports at AnnualCreditReport.com and dispute any errors.
If Spotloan isn't an option for you, our free form sends one request for $200–$5,000 to a network of third-party lenders. Many lenders start with a soft inquiry, and requirements vary by lender and state. Not everyone is matched. Our network's representative example: "$2,500 repaid over 12 monthly payments at 34.99% APR ≈ $249.90 per month; total repaid ≈ $2,998.74; finance charge ≈ $498.74." Example only; actual offers vary.

What are the requirements for a Spotloan?
Spotloan requires you to be at least 18, have a job or other regular income, and have a checking or savings account in your name at a bank or credit union. You also need a Social Security number, a valid email address, a mailing address and a phone number, and you must live in one of the 39 states where Spotloan lends.
Can I get a Spotloan with a prepaid card?
No. Spotloan does not accept prepaid debit accounts. You need a checking or savings account in your own name at a bank or credit union, and that account cannot be associated with any other Spotloan account. If you only have a prepaid card, you would need to open a regular account first.
Does Spotloan require a job?
Spotloan requires a job or other regular source of income. That means a traditional paycheck is not the only option, though Spotloan does not publish a full list of the income types it accepts. If your income comes from another regular source, ask Spotloan whether it qualifies before you apply.
What credit score do you need for Spotloan?
Spotloan does not publish a minimum credit score. It says it requests data from many sources, including non-traditional credit reporting agencies such as DataX and Clarity, and does not rely only on FICO. That means people with lower scores may still be considered, but approval is never guaranteed.
Do you need a Social Security number for Spotloan?
Yes. A Social Security number is one of Spotloan's listed requirements, along with a valid email, mailing address and phone number. Spotloan may also require identity verification through a third-party provider, so keep a government-issued photo ID nearby when you apply.
Which states are not eligible for Spotloan?
As of October 2026, Spotloan is not available in Arkansas, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. It lends in the other 39 states, including North Carolina, Massachusetts and Colorado, which some older websites wrongly list as unavailable.
